Is it just prompting chatbots?

No. They build and break small models, label their own data, and see the bias they introduced by accident.

Do they need maths beyond their grade?

No, though the ratio and percentage work gets a real workout.

Is it age-appropriate?

Ten and up. The material about how models fail is exactly what this age should hear first.

AI Summer Camp — Ellis Abel Learns STEM summer camp materials used in Frederick County, MD

What the week actually is

An AI camp for children should spend more time on what the model gets wrong than on what it gets right. Students train small classifiers, watch them fail on data they did not anticipate, and learn where confidence comes from — which is the skill that outlasts any tool.

Day by day

What a model is, in objects not code
Label your own data set
Train it and find where it fails
Fix the data, not the model
Showcase: show the failure you found
